Title: A Distraction of Ice and Fire
Series: Overprotective Criminals 'Verse
Fandom: CW's The Flash
Pairings: Barry Allen/Mick Rory/Leonard Snart
Warnings: Established relationship, polyamory, violence, relationship troubles, past child abuse, mention of panic attacks
Summary: After the reappearance of the Man in Yellow, Barry's distraction with getting ever faster leads to Len devising a distraction of his own.
Disclaim Her: Not mine.
A/N: This technically stands in for s1e10, Revenge of the Rogues. And I wasn't going to write anything more for this AU – as mentioned in the last A/N – but my muse handed me a scene (which actually ends up glossed over in this) and wouldn't let me sleep until I'd scribbled down a number of potential ideas for this. Damn him.
Yes, there's going to be more after this. The third fic is waiting to go through a reread, and the fourth fic is plotted out and just needs to be written. Gods help me.
This one is in Len's POV, because Barry is so very busy with other things. Also, this is Len's terrible idea. (istf, Len)
Many cheers again to StillNotGinger10 for playing beta reader and just generally egging my muse on.

Comment with the username you'll be using to rec and the category you want, choosing a category from the list below or selecting a more rare category that has been used in the past. If you want to rec a category that is not on the list below or in the community memories, feel free to ask. Remember that you may volunteer for a category that isn't listed.
By signing up, you are committing yourself to reccing at least two (preferably four) stories in that category during the month of August. July reccers may only sign up for next month after posting their minimum two recs for this month.
Please note that we are no longer asking reccers to check the memories to avoid reccing a story more than once. If you have a good fic to rec, go for it! The FAQ and rec template, with detailed instructions, can be found here.
You must be a member of stargateficrec in order to post, so if you're a new reccer, be sure to join the community.
If you wish to rec at the comm on LJ this month, go here.
( categories below the cut )
Remember: first come, first claimed.
The comm on LiveJournal will not disappear. All entries will remain; all memories will remain. It will not even go completely static, because we will be posting a round-up of links to the entries on the DW comm on a monthly basis. The main activity, however, will move here.
For the months of August and September, as part of the transition process, we will allow posting at both communities, both on LJ and DW. No reccer, of course, will be expected to post simultaneously; the mods will post an end-of-month entry on both comms with links to the recs that were made on the other platform.
The sign-up post for August will go up shortly. We have also slightly tweaked the reccing rules, and we think it will make things easier.
stargateficrec has a long, satisfying history, and we have no intention of seeing it dwindle away. We hope you will all continue to enjoy the recs from the Stargate fandom, whether you are reading, reccing, or being recced, both here and on LJ.
If you have any questions or observations for us, please comment below.

Of course, the worse part of an attention-seeking writer are the readers they leave in their wake who feel entitled to intrude on the process of other writers because they felt validated by a previous experience. They are utterly comfortable providing a list of wishes and wants to other writers in their feedback. If they want a certain pairing in a story—they demand it and will abuse a writer if they don’t get it.
I’ve said before that reader entitlement is the ugliest part of fandom. I’ve been threatened with rape and murder for not updating when a reader felt I should. There have been times when readers have essentially had screaming fits on my contact form or in an email because I didn’t write the pairing they wanted or I chose a Stargate project over a Harry Potter one for Rough Trade.
Some readers take my decisions regarding my own writing as a personal insult and have no problems letting me know that I’m ruining their life by not writing what they want me to write.
Recently, I had a reader send me a single sentence email, and it was:
“I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, I hope you finish Phoenix before I die.”
At first, I was outraged, but I wasn’t particularly surprised since I’ve seen this kind of emotional blackmail in fandom before. I deleted the email without a response, and I put the sender on a filter in my email that automatically trashes any email she sends me in the future. Because I want no part of her bullshit but I do wonder how many other writers she’s approached with this disgusting tactic.
Those who only read in fandom don’t genuinely understand the creative process. They don’t understand the intimacy of writing or the emotional risk of posting it in public. They never will understand, really, and investing yourself in trying to make them is just intellectual masochism.

so, for this comm to get in order, what we need are reccers!
this is the post where you sign up for the fandom (or large ship within a fandom) you're interested in reccing for. at the moment we're looking for recs just for the month of august, with one person per fandom/ship. (please don't worry if the fandom/ship you're interested in is taken! with enough activity we will definitely host more rounds.)
the way this will go is that once you have a fandom/ship to rec for, you will be assigned a certain day (such as sunday, monday, tuesday.) on the designated day, you will post one fic rec for your fandom.
( underappreciated definition )
( rec format )
please leave a comment with the fandom you're interested in reccing for! and yes, we do require a dreamwidth account. but other than that... that's it, and you'll hear from us soon!
